In this article, we’re going to be discussing the idea behind why should use a wine fridge to store your wine bottle collection, whether you’re looking to purchase one for your home kitchen, in fact for a commercial purpose such as in a bar or restaurant.

For those that may not be aware, a wine refrigerator is an appliance that helps store your collection of wine bottles, whilst helping regulate the temperature so that your wine stays in perfect condition.

Why should you use a wine fridge

Firstly, a wine fridge helps extend the life of your wine, and therefore if you’re a wine collector, wine connoisseur or you in fact sell wine, then extending the shelf life is extremely important, not only for taste but also for profitability.

Wine fridge can sometimes be quite expensive, it should be seen as an investment, therefore it’s useful to buy why a high-quality wine refrigerator, irrespective of the cost.

This is especially true if you are a collector of wine, who potentially has a wide selection of premium-priced, and often rare wines. This is because you’ll be looking at storing these wines over the long term and therefore having a reliable wine cooler is of utmost importance.

Alternatively, you could also choose to have a wine cellar set up, but this is a much more expensive way to refrigerate your wine collection.

What’s the difference between a wine cooler and a conventional fridge

A conventional fridge is able to store food alongside liquids. It cools and a much lower temperature than a wine fridge can. Therefore if you were to store wine in a conventional fridge, it would require being left out, so that it can warm up before serving. Otherwise, you wouldn’t be able to taste the wine properly.

Wine refrigerators are specifically made to store and cool wine bottles, so they can be set at the perfect temperature. Additionally, because they’re only designed to store wine bottles, the internal shelving can securely hold bottles in place so there’s no risk of them dropping or falling out.

Not just this but the environment within one fridge is specifically designed to help maintain a consistent cooling temperature, from the LED lighting which emits no heat through to the UV resistant tempered glass which helps prevent light from causing unwanted chemical reactions in the wine… These chemical reactions can subsequently cause a sour/bad taste.

Finally one of the other benefits of using a wine fridge is that a conventional fridge is opened on a regular basis, raising the overall temperature and causing an inconsistent cooling temperature. Fridges have a glass front door so you won’t need to open the fridge unless you want to either take a bottle out or put a bottle into the fridge

What are the different types of wine fridge?

There are several different types of wine fridges that are on the market, including:

For example, you could purchase a dual zone wine cooler that has two separate cooling compartments. Each can be individually controlled in terms of their temperature settings.

This makes storing red wine, white wine, rose and other varieties very convenient, as they can all be stored at different temperatures, within the same physical refrigerator.
